Dog Days of Summer: Boating with Man’s Best Friend
Share
The dog days of summer are here—and we mean that literally.
There’s something extra special about a hot summer day on the water when your favorite co-captain has four legs and a wagging tail. Dogs make the best boating buddies. They’re always up for an adventure, love the feeling of the wind in their face, and are surprisingly great at keeping watch while you reel in your next big catch. Whether your pup is perched at the bow like they own the place or snoozing in the shade with one eye on the bait cooler, their presence adds joy, calm, and a little humor to every outing.
And let’s face it—some of the best memories are made with wet paws on the deck and a happy dog snoozing after a long day of swimming and sun.
Before you and your pup hit the water, it’s important to prep for a safe and smooth day. Even strong swimmers need a well-fitted dog life vest for added safety—especially in deep or moving water. Keep your pup cool with access to shade and plenty of fresh water, and protect sensitive paws from hot boat surfaces with a non-slip mat or cooling pad.
Once you’re out there, don’t be surprised if your dog gets into the fishing spirit. Some dogs are naturals—watching the water, barking when a fish jumps, or striking the perfect pose next to your biggest catch. Others are content to nap by the tackle box or keep you company in the quiet moments. Either way, there’s no better fishing partner than one who’s always happy just to be by your side.
